Rejected Images for Poster and Magazine Cover

These are the 3 main images which I was going to use for my poster and magazine cover.
The first image (1.) I was going to use either for the main image of the magazine, which I the decided against, because magazines mainly focus on a person or a couple on their front cover, and therefore felt that more than 2 people would make the front cover too busy. And it also wasn't very well taken and would've looked unprofessional
The second image (2.) I was going to use for the poster. Although this image is very similar to the one I did use for the poster. However I felt that having both characters looking away from eachother doesn't give the spectator of the poster a sense of knowing something. Whereas the image of the female character looking at the spectator will make them feel more attached to that character.
The third image (3.) I was also considering for my poster. This image had the opposite reason for not using it. Although both characters are looking toward the spectator I felt that it would make the relationship between the audience and the main female protaginist isn't as personal if the specatator has both the characters looking at them. Also the proxemics between the characters isn't as close as the image I did use. So it then gives the wrong impression about there relationship.

First Impressions - Magazine Cover

This is my draft front cover of a movie magazine, covering my film.

I decided that this magazine would initially be a female magazine, seeing as the film magazine market is mainly dominated by male film magazines. Also I feel that the type of magazine that would actually do a story on it would be a magazine targeted at females. Which is why it is called "Chick Flick", a term used to describe a film that is targeted at a female audience.

However, this magazine cover does have influences from other film magazines.

This edition of Total Film Magazine influenced my construction of my film magazine. For example the use of two main colours I thought would be effective in drawing close attention to the main feature. The colours I chose were white and purple, this is because they are female colours, however have some sophistication in them. Also the use of one main image I used to, again, bring forward the lead story in the magazine and the image I used was were you see the couple embracing, which then suggests that this is a very female targeted film.

Some of the feature I used on the front cover, have very little to do with the film, but more to do with the authenticity of the magazine. For example, the use of the puffs, such as "SJP hears about the Morgans" is obviously an attempt to attract the target audience with a film that would appeal to them. Also the story on "Oddest Leading Man Crushes" is, again, an attempt to show the comedic element of the magazine and show that it is a fun magazine as well as serious about films etc.

My Movie Poster for First Impressions

This is the draft version of the poster for my film trailer 'First Impressions'.

This movie poster was inspired by both a film poster and DVD cover combined...

This the original movie poster for Pride and Prejudice. What I mainly picked up on on this poster was the use of the two main characters and no one else. Also the use of Keira Knightley's characters in the forground so that the audience know that it his her story or about her. Instead of using the main female protagnist in the forground, I decided it would look more contempary to have the couple in closer proxemics and the main character to look at the spectator, so as to establish her role in the film.

This is the DVD cover for the popular rom-com P.S. I Love You. It is quite evident that my poster was influenced by this cover, due to the pose of the couple and the structure of the poster i.e. the couple isn't central but the female protagnist is, suggesting her role in the film as a main character. The use of a slogan along with the title of the film, to draw more attention to it and the male character is looking at the female whilst the female is looking at the camera, is suggesting to the spectator that the male character is in love with the female character, however because the female character is looking at the camera it then may show that her role in the relationhip is some how altered by circumstance and isn't in the batural flow of things.
